Ukraine is  a country in the Eastern Europe. The population of Ukraine (according to the data of the State  Statistics Service  of Ukraine on September 1, 2015) was 42 636 094, the territory of the country is 603 549 km².

Ukraine occupies the 32nd place in the world by the population and 44th by the territory. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv. The official language is Ukrainian, Russian is widely spoken.

Ukraine is a unitary state and parliamentary presidential republic.

It borders on Belarus on the north, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary on the west, Romania and Moldova on the south-west, Russia on the east and north-east. On the south and south-east it is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

The monetary unit is Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH), the average rate in 2015 was 22 hryvias per 1 USD.

The climate of Ukraine is moderate continental. The summer in Ukraine is warm and long, in southern and southeast Ukraine it is hot and dry, in western Ukraine it is warm and wet. The winter is mild, lower temperatures do not hold up long.

The average temperature of July is + 24.5 °C,  January  – 6.8 °C.

Kiev,  the capital of Ukraine (since 1934) and the center of Kiev region, is located on the River Dnieper and is the country's largest city and its main industrial, transportation and cultural center. This is a railway junction and a river port with a population of 2,809,000 inhabitants.

Kharkiv is the largest city in the eastern part of Ukraine, the administrative center of Kharkiv region. This is the second most populous city in Ukraine; chief scientific, industrial, transport and student center of the country. It was the third largest industrial, scientific and transport center of the Soviet Union after Moscow and Leningrad. In the second half of the 20th century it became the main transport hub of South-Eastern Europe.
